The double-quoted command region in matlab ... -r " ... " (first explained in the Serial Batch section) is preprocessed by the system shell in run_matlab_pct_job to replace valid environment variables, like $n, with their respective values before being passed to the matlab command.

As previously explained in run_matlab_job, the double quoted segment in run_matlab_aj is first processed by the system shell to replace all specified environment variables with their respective values before passing control on to MATLAB. The above example runs 3 jobs with $SGE_TASK_ID passed to each as 3, 5, and 7, respectively as the direct substitute for n, the random square matrix order.

I tested the current version of octave with change ( ).There are still difference in the way NaNs are handeld compared to matlab (R2013a). Matlab tries to plot as much as possible while this is not the case for the current dev version of octave (compare pcolor_octave_current.png and pcolor_matlab.png generated by test_pcolor.m).In particular a NaN in the parameter c is handeld different than a NaN in the coordinates. Therefore I think we should not use the clip variable in both cases.
If a matrix containing a NaN is plotted with pcolor, the corresponding grid cell is black, while in matlab such elements are not plotted (they appear white since the default background is white).
